eToro Market Analysis

on Tue Apr 05, 2016 1:40 pm

Asian shares fell overnight in response to a combination of factors. A 2% drop in oil prices worried the markets and a rising Japanese yen pushed share prices down in Tokyo.

Many investors are privately concerned that oil prices will continue to fall until they reach the lows that we saw at the beginning of 2016. The Nikkei 225 and Topix were both down over 2%. Chinese trading was mixed with the Hang Seng down, the Shanghai Composite flat and the Shenzhen Composite up. US indices were also slightly lower.

Investors are continuing to receive mixed messages about the real state of the US economy with some data suggesting that growth slowed during the first quarter of 2016. Demand for capital goods fell during February and consumer spending was lower than hoped for.

The strong US dollar has also put pressure on the American manufacturing sector, making exports harder. Despite Janet Yellen's firmness over interest rate rises, the FOMC shows signs of being divided on the issue.

European indices are expected to open down this morning. It is likely that European markets will take their lead from the uninspiring Asian and US trading. UK PMI figures are due this morning and may cause some volatility around the GBP.

Please note that due to market volatility, some of the prices may have already been reached and scenarios played out.
